BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) – A Good Samaritan currently living in a homeless shelter turned in to police roughly $42,000 worth of currency, a passport, and personal papers he found in front of the TJ Maxx in the South Bay Mall.

According to police, a man flagged down officers on patrol in the area of the South Bay Mall located at 8 Allstate Road at about 5:44 p.m. Saturday. The man told officers he found a backpack containing a large sum of money and a passport in front of the store.

Officers took the backpack, which they later determined contained $2,400 and $39,500 in traveler's checks, and notified store security.

A short time later, an employee of the Best Buy store called police to report a man had reported his backpack lost.

Officers identified the owner of the bag by his passport and returned his property to him.
