Holyoke man faces child rape charge


EAST BROOKFIELD, Mass. (AP) - A Holyoke man has been charged with child rape for allegedly having sex with a 15-year-old Hardwick girl he met online.

Michael Theroux was ordered held on $50,000 bail at his arraignment Monday in Western Worcester District Court in East Brookfield after pleading not guilty to charges of statutory rape of a child, enticing a child under 16 years old and assault and battery.

The girl told police she and the 24-year-old Theroux, who originally told her he was 17 and lied about his name, had sex with her about three months after they connected on a social networking website. She told police they had sex five times without her consent.

The Telegram & Gazette ( reports that Theroux was out on bail at the time of the alleged crimes.
