Holliston police investigating Snapchat video of middle schooler waving gun

HOLLISTON, Mass. — A shocking video turned up on social media this weekend that quickly turned into a police investigation.

A middle school student posted video of himself waving a gun around while his younger brother is sitting right next to him.

Police say it certainly looks like a real gun, but they’re still working to determine if that’s the case.

The video surfaced on Snapchat over the weekend from an Adams Middle School 8th grader, who we aren’t identifying.

In the video, both he and his little brother are pointing to and talking about the gun.

Holliston police say they talked to the boy and his parent after learning about the Snapchat video from someone in town.  The chief told Boston 25 News there was no clear concern about him hurting anyone or targeting the school. But they are still trying to determine when it was recorded and if the gun is real.

“Even if it were a fake gun it is alarming,” said 8th grade parent Tina Perry. “So I think it's going to be a good lesson for all the kids in the middle school to hear about this."

Several parents told Boston 25 News the student was living in Boston previously and the video had references to Dorchester.

The chief said he doesn’t believe what’s seen in the video was recorded in Holliston.

The principal told parents over the weekend, "we want to assure you that, in collaboration with the Holliston Police Department, we have and will continue to take action to ensure the safety of the student involved and all students at the Adams Middle School.”

The school superintendent told Boston 25 News via email, "based on our assessment of information we have confirmed, we did not see any need for any increased police presence at our school today or going forward."

It's unclear if the student is still going to school while police investigate.  As of right now, there are no charges in the case.
