Holiday traffic reroutes frustrating local neighborhoods

This holiday traffic rush is underway and some towns are being proactive as driving shortcut apps, like Waze, reroute people through neighborhoods to avoid sitting in traffic.

Residents in Medford feel their small town neighborhood feel is being inundated by traffic.

"The traffic starts about 6:00 in the morning until about 9:00," said Tony Cabral.

Medford police are concerned more cars on these tighter streets is a safety issue; from kids play to kids waiting for the school bus.

Medford and other towns, like Brookline, are starting to restrict when non-residents can access neighborhoods and have been doing enforcement.

The Waze driving app tells Boston 25 News if legal changes are made to the status of local roads by municipalities, local volunteer editors identify and validate these amendments and can then update the map within as little as 24 hours.
