Hit-and-run in Dorchester leaves man with serious injuries

BOSTON — Police are on the hunt for the driver involved in a hit-and-run in Dorchester.

New surveillance video shows the aftermath of a crash that left a man with life-threatening injuries near the 1800 block of Dorchester Avenue.

"He had a lot of blood coming out of him,” said Nicole Zacharias, who heard the crash.

Zacharias was working Tuesday night when she said a middle-aged man was hit trying to cross the street.

“Honestly it sounded like a huge crash…it was really bad. I didn't think he was breathing at one point,” he said.

By the time she came outside to check on the man, she said the driver who hit him was gone.

Around 8:30 p.m., just 90 minutes after the hit and run was first called in, Quincy police say they spotted a vehicle matching the description from Boston police on Greenleaf Street. BPD was called in and they towed the car away, Quincy Captain John Dougan.

Quincy police say Boston investigators towed away a gray 2000 Honda Civic with Massachusetts plates. The business owner whose cameras are trained on Dorchester Avenue didn’t want us to show his face, but he said he’s hopeful his video can help investigators. However, when we talked with him Wednesday, he told us he hadn’t spoken to Boston police.

FOX25 reached out to Boston police to let them know about that video. They told us they couldn’t comment on any video because it’s part of an active investigation.

So far, no one has been arrested and the victim’s name has not been released.
