Hit-and-run driver kills Milford family puppy

MILFORD, Mass. — A local family is devastated after a hit-and-run driver killed their puppy.

A Milford family says their six-month-old Siberian Husky named Ruby was hit and killed on Mount Pleasant Street Thursday.

Nine-year-old Gianna had taken her puppy outside and was on her way back home Thursday morning when Ruby ran off and into the street.

A neighbor's security footage shows the pickup truck that witnesses say hit Ruby.

“What bothers me is that the person just didn’t stop as they saw a 9-year-old right there with the dog,” said Melissa Bonina, Gianna’s mother.

They live near a steep hill and the sightlines aren’t great, but witnesses say Ruby was in plain sight, as was Gianna, right behind her.

“I understand this is an accident, it’s nobody’s fault. I think it’s heartless that the person didn’t stop,” said Bonina.

Police say they are investigating, though the family is asking whoever hit their dog for one simple thing.

“Just come and say I’m sorry,” said Bonina.
