• High-end retail chain coming under fire for skinny Minnie ad


    BOSTON (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) A high-end fashion retailer is coming under fire for making Disney icon Minnie Mouse very skinny.

    Barney's is launching a new ad campaign called "Electric Holiday" where Minnie and her friends dream of being fashion models.

    Critics say Minnie Mouse is barely recognizable because they made her so skinny. Executives say the thinner Minnie only appears in part of the moving video ads as a dream sequence.

    There is an online petition on Change.org that had more than 132,000 signatures on Tuesday morning.

    Disney heiress Abigail Disney is among those demanding that Barney's drop the ad campaign and return Minnie Mouse to her normal weight. They say the ad promotes a negative body image for young girls.
