High winds on Friday could cause downed limbs, power outages, travel issues

(FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) - An intense storm is moving in Thursday night. Eventually, it'll be heavy rain for all, but some snow and sleet is falling as it first starts out, particularly north and west of Boston. There won't be much accumulating, and rain will wash it all away Friday.

The biggest concern Friday will be the high winds expected. There is a High Wind Watch for coastal areas north of Boston and all areas southeast of Boston. Winds could gust as high as 60 miles-per-hour after 10am. That is strong enough to take down some tree limbs and cause scattered power outages. Better check your flights, too. Those winds may cause delays or cancellations. I also would not be surprised to see a few thunderstorms with the front around 2 p.m.

Cold air pouring in behind the front could trigger snow flurries Saturday, but chances for a white Christmas still exist. A weak storm may pass south of New England with light snow Christmas morning. More on that as we get closer.
