High school student charged in Easton accident

EASTON, Mass. (AP) — An Easton high school student is facing charges after allegedly striking and killing a 71-year-old man and his dog while they were out for a walk.

The Enterprise (http://bit.ly/17yTPqH ) reports that authorities on Tuesday charged 17-year-old Colin O'Hearne with negligent driving resulting in a death, speeding and failure to stay in marked lanes in connection with the death Monday morning of George Power.

Police said O'Hearne was traveling east on Summer Street when he lost control of his car, striking Power before crashing into a tree and then a utility pole. The dog also died.

It appears as if O'Hearne, who plays football at Oliver Ames High School, had just left practice when Power was hit.

O'Hearne could not be reached.
