Herald: Remy denies killing girlfriend

BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) – The son of Red Sox broadcasting legend Jerry Remy proclaimed his innocence in the death of his longtime girlfriend in a jailhouse interview with the Boston Herald.

Jared Remy is accused of stabbing Jennifer Martel to death at a Waltham apartment on Aug. 15.

When asked if he killed Martel, Remy told a Herald Reporter, "No. That's ridiculous. How dumb would I have to be? I loved her, I still love her."

Remy told the reporter that she was the first person he has seen since he's been locked up. He said he has refused to allow his parents to visit him.

"I'm sure they're not thrilled with me right now," Remy said.

The Herald reported that Remy appeared optimistic about his chances of acquittal. He faces arraignment in Superior Court on a murder charge in connection with Martel's death.

The couple's 5-year-old daughter is in state custody. Remy told the Herald he has not tried to contact her and doesn't plan to while he's in jail.
