Heavy rain, wind and waves pound southern coastline

SANDWICH, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) – Residents along the coast are preparing for high tide Friday morning.

Water has already breached several coastal barriers. In Scituate, 50 mile-per-hour winds caused structural damage and utility crews are working to restore power up and down the coast.

About 6,900 people are without power.

Marshfield residents say they are prepared for the worst, but are ready for spring.

In Hyannis, MEMA recorded tropical-force wind gusts of 68 miles per hours Thursday. In Nantucket winds reached 63.

Evacuations have been ordered for Scituate and Salisbury.
