Haverhill teen killed in Maine car crash

NAPLES, ME (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) A Haverhill teen was killed in a single-car crash in Maine on Friday night.

The Cumberland County Sheriff's Office was called to the scene of a crash on Harrison Road in Naples at about 11 p.m.

Investigators say 17-year-old Joshua Bonnell was not wearing his seat belt when he hit a tree at a high rate of speed. Joshua was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 17-year-old's brother, who police identify as 15-year-old Austin Bonnell, was a passenger in the car. He was wearing his seat belt, but was partially ejected from the car. Emergency crews used the "Jaws of Life" to remove the teen from the car.

Austin was flown via medical helicopter to a Maine hospital where he was treated for serious, but non-life threatening injuries that include two broken legs and a concussion.

The crash remains under investigation. The Cumberland County Sheriff's Office says speed is considered a factor in the crash, but alcohol is not.
