HAVERHILL (AP) — Haverhill police are stepping up patrols along school bus routes after two buses were struck by BB pellets earlier this month.
The BB shootings on Dec. 20 shattered windows on two buses and showered glass on young children 4 and 5-year olds, and teenagers headed to Haverhill High School. No one was seriously hurt.
Police said at the time that they think the same person was responsible for both shootings, and they possibly fired from a passing vehicle. There have been no arrests.
Superintendent James Scully tells The Eagle-Tribune he has had daily discussions with police Chief Alan DeNaro since the shootings and the chief has offered whatever support schools have requested, including increased patrols and even officers riding on buses.
The patrols will continue Wednesday.
