Harbormasters rescue blue shark by Mass. beach

ROCKPORT, Mass. (AP) - Harbormasters say they helped a distressed blue shark by taking a hook out of its mouth and guiding it away from a Rockport beach.

The Gloucester Times reports that it was the two harbormasters' second attempt to help the blue shark on Monday that met with success.

The shark was about 6 feet long and cruising near swimmers close off Front Beach when the harbormasters stepped in, as beach patrons also tried to help.

The harbormasters dragged the shark into deeper water after taking out the hook on the sand, but the shark came back about 25 minutes later.

The second time around, they put the shark onto their boat and dropped it into the ocean beyond the breakwater before it swam away.
