PROVIDENCE, R.I. (MyFoxBoston.com) – More than a dozen women's groups are calling on Rhode Island Governor Lincoln Chafee to put an end to father-daughter dances.
This stems from complaints over the Cranston public school's decision to host a father-daughter dance.
Legislators in Rhode Island approved a bill that would allow activities for one sex provided there is an equal one offered for the other sex.
The Providence Journal reports that a letter sent to Chafee's office calls for him to veto the bill. The letter says allowing the bill is a violation of anti-discrimination laws and would open the state up to costly lawsuits in the future.
The governor has not commented on the letter.
