Grill fire in Weymouth causes nearly $100K in damages

WEYMOUTH, Mass. — A grill fire in Weymouth turned into thousands of dollars worth of damage.

The Weymouth Fire Department responded to a home on River Street for reports of an outside fire around 1:30 p.m. Saturday afternoon.

The fire started on the house's deck, and then extended to the back of the home before eventually making its way inside, the department said.

The homeowner allegedly left the grill unattended for a period of time, and the fire then spread from there.

All of the people in the house and their dog were able to get out safely, but the fire caused anywhere from $70,000 to $100,000 worth of damages.

Some firefighters were treated on scene for heat exposure.

The Weymouth Fire Department urged people to properly clean their grills and have enough space around them to avoid any incidents, while also paying attention to the grill while cooking.
