Gov.'s office defends cabinet member criticized for workload

(MyFoxBoston.com) – Gov. Deval Patrick's office is defending a cabinet member who was recently criticized for her workload.

The Boston Herald first reported that Public Safety Secretary Andrea Cabral kept a very light public schedule, not logging more than 25 hours a week. The newspaper cited documents provided by the state.

Gov. Patrick's spokeswoman Jesse Mermell told the Herald that this is a "non-issue."

The paper questioned Cabral's light schedule and lack of public visibility in the day following the marathon attacks. Her spokesman says she was very visible during the events afterwards, including being on scene in Watertown for 14 hours during the manhunt for the bombing suspects.

Mermell told the paper Cabral regularly burns the midnight oil to keep Massachusetts safe.
