Gov. Patrick dines with Obama on vacation

BOSTON (AP) -- Gov. Deval Patrick has dined with the President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama during their vacation on Martha's Vineyard.

Patrick's press secretary Heather Johnson said the governor enjoyed the Wednesday dinner. She said Patrick has visited the president from time to time in the past and is always happy to welcome the first family to Massachusetts.

Patrick is an ally and friend of Obama and spent a good portion of last year campaigning for his re-election. The two also share ties to Chicago.

In general Patrick has been keeping a low profile during August.

The last event noted on his official schedule was a cabinet meeting he held Friday, Aug. 2 at his Sweet P Farm in Richmond.

His last official event at the Statehouse was a July 31 meeting of the Governor's Council.
