Global traffic scorecard: Boston ranks 18th for worst congestion in the world

BOSTON — Boston traffic doesn't seem to be improving.

According to a recent report by INRIX, Boston ranked 18th in the world for worst global congestion in 2016. In 2015, the city came in at number 47.

Overall, Boston drivers spent 57.6 hours in traffic in 2016 during peak time periods.

THE BRIGHT SIDE

Boston traffic isn't nearly as bad as Los Angeles, which topped the list of grid locked cities. In 2016, drivers spent 104 hours in traffic during peak periods. Following Los Angeles in the list was Moscow (91 hours), New York (89 hours), San Francisco (83 hours) and Bogota (80 hours).

GLOBAL TRAFFIC SCORECARD

The United States accounted for 11 of the top 25 cities worldwide with the worst traffic. The biggest trouble spot was the Cross Bronx Expressway in New York, with the average driver wasting 86 hours on it per year.
