Girl injured after being struck in Newton hit and run

NEWTON, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- A 12-year-old girl was struck and injured by a driver who then sped off without stopping Saturday night.

Newton Police Lieutenant Bruce Apotheker said the incident happened at around 9:10 p.m. Saturday, on Beacon Street between Langley Road and Centre Street.

After hitting the girl, the car then blew through a red light and fled the scene at a "high rate of speed," Apotheker said.

The girl suffered non-life threatening injuries, though her condition was unknown on Sunday.

Police are investigating and are looking for a light-colored sedan they believe could be responsible for hitting the girl. Officers are going through surveillance video around the area to see if they can identify the car, but are hoping that someone will come forward with information.
