Girl grazed by bullets recovering as Boston police search for shooter

BOSTON — Boston police are searching for the shooter who opened fire just after midnight Sunday, injuring an 8-year-old girl who was playing with chalk outside a Jamaica Plain apartment.

The boyfriend of the girl's mother told Boston 25 News that they were visiting his apartment on Heath Street when at least 15 shots rang out.

The girl was playing outside his front door when she was grazed by two bullets.

"She's innocent," Mariano Caribe said. "That's a bay for crying out loud. A baby girl. She has nothing to do with no violence."

He said the girl was grazed in her shoulder and her side while she was playing with chalk outside his front door.

She was taken to Boston Medical Center and is expected to make a full recovery.

The gunman remains on the loose, and police described the shooter's car as a gray Infiniti.

Boston police Commissioner William Evans described the shooting as unacceptable. He said it's been difficult to find witnesses, meaning it's not clear whether the bullets had an intended target.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call police.
