Giffords marks shooting anniversary by skydiving

PHOENIX (MyFoxBoston.com/AP) — Former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords spent the third anniversary of the mass shooting that left her severely injured by doing an activity many people hope to cross off their bucket list.

"I have the opportunity to do something I love: skydiving with my friend, former Navy SEAL Jimmy Hatch," Giffords tweeted Wednesday.

Giffords was one of 13 people wounded when a gunman opened fire during a political event in Tucson. Six people were killed.

The Arizona Democrat resigned from Congress as she continues to recover from her injuries.

Officials this week announced plans for a permanent memorial in remembrance of the shootings expected to be located downtown at the Old Pima County Courthouse and in an adjacent park. The sites would display some of the thousands of items, including letters, candles and American flags that were placed in storage after forming makeshift memorials across the city in the days after the shooting.
