(FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) – They lost their daughter to a massive earthquake in Haiti. This weekend, a Worcester family celebrates her life and memory 1,500 miles away.
Britney Gengel's last wish was to open an orphanage to help the children of Haiti. Her parents made that wish come true, creating the "Be Like Brit" organization.
The non-profit raised nearly $2 million for the orphanage project.
The earthquake-proof building is shaped in a "B" to honor Britney. It is expected to house 66 orphans, staff and volunteers.
Family and friends will gather for the grand opening in Haiti Saturday.
