Fundraiser for teen hurt in Arborway crash

Teenagers at a local school have organized a fundraiser for Mark Delamere, one of the teens injured in a head-on crash on the Arborway in Jamaica Plain.

The Holy Name Youth Service Project is hosting a hypnotist from 8 to 11 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 16 to raise money for Delamere's current and medical expenses, according to Delamere's fundraising website, Mark Delamere Strong. So far, donations to the page total just under $70,000 of the $250,000 goal.

Delamere, who suffered life-altering brain and spine injuries in the crash, has been moved to The Shepard Center in Atlanta, which specializes in spinal cord and brain injury rehabilitation.

The fundraiser, according to UniversalHub, is aimed at seventh to 12th graders and will feature hypnotist Tommy Vee, taking place at Holy Name Parish Hall in West Roxbury. Previous fundraising efforts included an adult street hockey tournament in Roslindale Nov. 2, according to West Roxbury Patch.

Delamere was riding in the car of 18-year-old Nikolas Papadopoulos with the criminal offense of negligent operation of a motor vehicle and civil offense of speeding, failing to ensure that two passengers under 16 were wearing seat belts, and unsafely crossing the road's lane marking, all in connection with the Sept. 6 crash.

Evidence suggests Papadopoulos was traveling westbound on the state roadway at speeds of up to 80 mph when the car he was driving jumped the median near St. Joseph Street and began to roll, colliding with a pickup truck heading eastbound.
