Franklin neighborhood angry over 'random' offensive vandalism

FRANKLIN, Mass. — Police are looking for the people who used spray paint to vandalize a series of houses, cars and signs in a Franklin neighborhood.

The graffiti popped up overnight on more than a dozen homes and cars.

"I'm glad it's coming off, but it's definitely a lot of elbow grease to get this off,” Kristen Hess told FOX25 as she cleaned off her garage door.

Hess had already removed the offensive word in the graffiti against -- of all things -- the Chicago Cubs.

“We had a Cubs flag hanging, so they obviously just used that as some ammunition to write some things about the Cubs,” Hess said. “But, I mean, the cubs won the World Series, who is mad about that?"

Most of the homeowners we talked to believe it is kids running around, trying to cause mayhem.

“I can't see any adult doing it,” high school student Madison Kuzio said. “I think it has to be kids. I don't see adults damaging -- I mean, adults know what a car costs, what the panels on the side of the house cost. I don't know why they would do that to someone else.”

Franklin Police agree and investigators say they believe kids are responsible. They said they are not investigating the vandalism as a hate crime.

"I was angry. You know, some kids did something like this and what they wrote on my wife's car -- disgusting," Al Curtain said. “There's always been vandalism with kids. I taught high school, I know. But the words they use, I think is going a little extreme in this case."

Police have not released any suspect information.
