Frank Salemme murder trial on hold

The murder trial of former mob boss Frank Salemme is on hold.

Salemme is accused of ordering the 1993 hit of Boston nightclub owner Steven DiSarro.

The trial began just about two weeks ago on May 9. Former mobsters have testified so far that they saw or knew of Salemme's involvement in DiSarro's death.

During court in Thursday, the jury was supposed to hear an alleged secret surveillance tape of Salemme talking about DiSarro, but time ran out. It was set to be played on Friday, but the trial was postponed.

No one is saying why the trial is on hold, but the U.S. Marshals are asking for extra security for two of their inspectors when they testify. The issue is that they work undercover dealing with gangs, terrorists, criminal organizations, and they don't want their cover blown.

Boston 25 News reporter Bob Ward - who has been following this case - says hearing on a new request is set for Wednesday, but sources say that is not the reason for the delay.
