Framingham woman gets probation in death

WORCESTER, Mass. (AP) — A Framingham woman who was talking on her cell phone when the car she was driving struck and killed a pedestrian in Worcester has been placed on five years of probation after pleading guilty to related charges.

Yayra Dika pleaded guilty Tuesday to driving to endanger and in a plea deal prosecutors dropped a charge of motor vehicle homicide by negligent driving.

Police say the 31-year-old Dika hit 60-year-old Julio Oliveras of Worcester in November 2011. He was not in a crosswalk

Dika said she did not see Oliveras.

The prosecutor said that fact that Dika stopped, called 911, and took responsibility for her actions played a role in the sentence.
