FOX25 Investigates: Construction material may be to blame for Red Line delays

BRAINTREE, Mass. — Crews working to improve MBTA performance may in fact be responsible for delays that lasted nearly 9 hours on Monday.

FOX25 Investigates has learned that a Red Line train apparently struck a metal cart left behind near Braintree Station.

Riders traveling between Braintree and Quincy Adams were forced to use a shuttle bus for several hours.

A source sent FOX25 Investigates photos of the debris along with photos that pieces of the train after the crash.

The cart had apparently been left behind by a private contractor that had been working all weekend to install a new third rail.

A MassDOT spokesperson told FOX25 several trains had passed by the metal cart off to the side of the Red Line track before it was hit by a train.

The MBTA and MassDOT are investigating the crash.
