FOX 25's Sorboni Banerjee emcees gala to benefit the American India Foundation

(FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) – The Indian community came together at the Museum of Fine Arts on Saturday night to raise money for educating underprivileged kids, as well as funding important non-profits in India.

FOX 25's Sorboni Banerjee celebrated her roots and emceed the Sixth Annual Bow Ties and Bangles Gala for the New England Chapter of the American India Foundation. The organization has raised nearly $10 million this year.

The mission of the American India Foundation (AIF) is to catalyze social and economic change in India.

AIF mobilizes resources in the United States and India and invests these to improve education, livelihoods, and public health for the poor in India.

The AIF has implemented programs through over 115 Indian non-governmental organizations since its inception in 2001 and is an active contributor to India's development, according to the organization's website.

Every dollar that is raised is matched by an additional $5 from Indian corporations, state governments, and local philanthropists, which makes an even bigger difference.

Sorboni Banerjee has taken part in this event for six years.
