Foursquare will launch its first ads on Wednesday, according to Mashable.com.
The popular check-in app will offer a "Promoted Updates" offering to merchants, joining the ranks of Twitter, Facebook and Tumblr. The updates would serve updates and specials to customers near a venue.
Last week, Foursquare's blog announced a similar rollout wherein businesses could send local updates, such as specials, events or product arrivals, to users who frequently check in or have liked the venue. Wednesday's launch would allow those updates to go to all users.
According to Mashable, companies like JC Penney, Best Buy and Old Navy would be offering Promoted Updates and Promoted Specials in conjunction with Wednesday's launch.
