NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. (AP)- Officials at the prestigious Brooke School have told alumni and parents that a former headmaster had an inappropriate relationship with a student.
The letter sent Thursday by the current headmaster and trustees president said former headmaster Lawrence Becker engaged in a relationship that was "objectionable, manipulative and an abuse of his position."
Becker led the North Andover school 1986 to 2008. Neither the letter nor a spokeswoman hired by the school disclosed any details.
The letter said the matter was handled by the trustees' president at the time, businessman and former Republican presidential candidate Steve Forbes.
Becker issued a statement saying the report caused him and his wife pain and "encourages serious questions" about his student relationships. He said his thousands of students and faculty colleagues "know the answers to those questions. I leave the responses to them."
