Former pro boxer accused of assaulting, strangling girlfriend in Weymouth

WEYMOUTH, Mass. — A former professional boxer has been arrested after allegedly choking his girlfriend, beating her and holding her against her will.

Police say Christopher Mcinerney stomped on his girlfriend’s face and choked her inside their Weymouth home.

The 38-year-old is charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, kidnapping and strangulation.

“I hear them fighting constantly, it's a constant thing,” neighbor Sherry MacDonald said. “I hear the swearing, the volatile language, things busted around.”

According to court paperwork, Mcinerney and his girlfriend were at a bar when they got into an argument. The fight carried on to their Weymouth home.

“I knew they had issues, but I didn't know it was that violent,” Tina Halter, a neighbor, said. “Arguing all the time. The police were there constantly. As a matter of fact, they were just there last week.”

The alleged assault happened earlier in the month. When the victim was able to get free she ran to a neighbor’s house for help.

In 2008, Mcinerney was charged with attempted murder on a woman, but those charges were dropped.

He’s now being held without bail.
