Former Gov. Weld endorses Gomez for Senate

BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) -- Former Mass. Governor Bill Weld has endorsed Gabriel Gomez for U.S. Senate.

"After getting to know Gabriel and watching his campaign it is clear to me he is exactly the new American leader that this state needs in the Senate. As a son of immigrants, a Navy SEAL and a successful businessman, Gabriel has a unique set of experiences and skills that will bring an outsider's perspective to Washington D.C." said Weld.

A businessman from Cohasset, Gomez is making his first run for statewide office. He will face two other Republicans, former U.S. Attorney Michael Sullivan and state Rep. Daniel Winslow, in the April 30 primary.

U.S. Reps. Edward Markey and Stephen Lynch are vying on the Democratic side. The special election to fill the seat formerly held by Secretary of State John Kerry is scheduled for June 25.
