Former animal control officer facing animal cruelty charges

WAREHAM, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) – A former animal control officer is facing animal cruelty criminal charges.

Anna Nelson's 10-year-old terrier mix was so sick it had to be put down. The MSPCA says Nelson failed to provide proper veterinary care for her dog.

Officials said the dog was diseased and severely emaciated. Withholding urgent care is a violation of the state's animal cruelty law.

Nelson was the animal control officer for Wareham, meaning she was responsible for reporting instances of animal cruelty to local police. She's due in court later this month.

If convicted, Nelson faces five years in prison and $2,500 in fines.
