Former animal control officer facing animal cruelty charges

WAREHAM, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- A former animal control officer from Wareham is facing felony animal cruelty charges for reportedly failing to provide care for her sick dog.

Anna Nelson's unnamed 10-year-old terrier mix was euthanized at the MSPCA's Jamaica Plain facility. Investigators claim Nelson failed to get veterinary care for the dog, which the MSPCA says was severely emaciated and diseased.

Nelson, who previously served as an animal control officer in Wareham, will be arraigned on April 24. She faces up to five years in prison and a $2,500 fine if found guilty.
