Footprints in snow lead police to alleged nursing home robber

MANCHESTER, N.H. — A New Hampshire man is behind bars after he was accused of robbing a Manchester nursing home Thursday morning.

Police were called to the Evergreen Nursing Home on Beech Street just after 10 a.m. to investigate reports of a suspicious man inside the facility.

Staff members told officers they saw the man going into and out of rooms. The employees attempted to contain the man inside a bathroom, but when police arrived they discovered he was able to escape through a window.

Officers said they were able to follow footprints in the snow to a nearby garage. They entered the garage and found a man, who was identified as David Hill, crouching down behind a vehicle.

Police tried to take Hill, 51, of Manchester, into custody, but he resisted.

Hill was eventually arrested.

Police said he allegedly entered several rooms at the nursing home and was able to steal $10 from a purse. When he was arrested police said he had the money.

He was charged with burglary, resisting arrest and loitering. He is expected to appear in a Manchester court on Friday.
