Five years after U.S. Marine shot to death, police still searching for suspects

MALDEN, Mass. — It's been five years since a store owner was shot and killed in his store in Malden - and police continue to search for the two suspects involved.

Shawn Clark, of Saugus, was a 39-year-old U.S. Marine who served in Iraq and Afghanistan.

He was shot at Patriot Skateboard at 804 Main Street on Jan. 29, 2013.

“I always thought my son would go after me. Those are the preparations you make in life. You don’t expect someone to take your child away so soon,” Anita Clark, Shawn’s mother, said.

When police responded, Clark was suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was brought to the hospital, where he later died.

Officials said the shooting happened after a confrontation with Clark. He was shot by one suspect, and they both fled the scene.

The incident has remained under investigation by Malden Police, State Police, and the Middlesex District Attorney's Office.

“I would love to say, ‘why don’t you feel that guilt of what you’ve done? Get it off your chest.’ I’m sure they are living with it the way we are,” Anita Clark said.

Officials are sharing video surveillance from the store on the day of the shooting that shows two men who are believed to be the suspects.

They note the facial and body features of the suspects, and the clothing they are wearing.

Anyone with information about the shooting should contact State Police or Malden Police at 781-897-6600.
