Fitchburg teacher accused of having sex with student indicted

FITCHBURG, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- A former sex education teacher at the North Central Charter Essential School in Fitchburg was indicted Friday amid allegations that she engaged in a sexual relationship with an underage student.

Rachelle Gendron, 27, of Fitchburg, is charged with one count of enticement of a child under the age of 16 and five counts of aggravated rape by age difference.

Investigators allege Gendron had a relationship with the teen between Oct. 2012 and March 2013 while working at the charter school. Gendron is also accused of sending the victim nude photos of herself.

A judge set bail at $2,000 Friday.

The charter school where Gendron previously worked released a statement Saturday, saying they took immediate action upon learning of the allegations made against the 27-year-old.

"The North Central Charter Essential School's highest priority is the safety and well-being of our students and we are both shocked and concerned by the allegations against the former employee in question," reads the statement. "Upon first learning of those allegations, we took prompt and appropriate action consistent with the best interests of our students, which included swiftly terminating the individual and fully cooperating with law enforcement authorities investigating this matter. Until this matter is resolved, however, we cannot offer further comment."
