Fitchburg residents hold vigil for missing 5-year-old boy

FITCHBURG, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- Residents gathered in Fitchburg Wednesday night for a vigil for missing 5-year-old Jeremiah Oliver. Relatives have not seen the boy since Sept. 14.

A social worker and a supervisor at the Mass. Department of Children and Families have been fired in connection with this case. His family was at the vigil and said that they are furious. They believe that if the social workers had done their jobs properly, Oliver would not be missing.

Stephanie Chambers attended the vigil and said, "I saw what was going on and as a mother it just breaks my heart."

Jeremiah's mother, Elsa Oliver, and her boyfriend Alberto Sierra were arrested Friday and the 5-year-old's disappearance being investigated as a homicide.

The boy's aunt Rose Valcourt said, "It's been so long for him to be out here somewhere you know, so we're thinking negative, we're thinking positive, but nobody knows."

Jeremiah's uncle and his biological father are considering suing DCF for failing to protect Oliver, but they have yet to make a final decision.
