Fishermen catch 609 pound Thresher shark off Mass. coast

NEWBURYPORT, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) – A fisherman and his crew brought a taste of Shark Week to Newburyport last weekend when they reeled in a monster Thresher shark.

According to the Newburyport Daily News, it took Bob Cloutier and his crew nearly two and a half hours to get the shark out of the water and onto the boat. The shark was caught about 60 miles off the coast.

The Thresher weighed in just shy of the state record at 609 pounds.

In the wild, Thresher sharks use their long tail extensions to slap the water and herd their prey.
