First lady cancels trip to NH as Sandy threatens the region

BOSTON (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) The first lady has canceled plans to visit the University of New Hampshire next week as Hurricane Sandy threatens to bring heavy winds and rains to the area.

In a statement released on Friday, reps for Michelle Obama cite the closure of the UNH campus on Monday and Tuesday and the storm's potential impact on Durham, NH as the reason for canceling.

Mrs. Obama was scheduled to attend a rally on Tuesday at UNH.

"This change in schedule is being taken out of an abundance of caution to ensure that all local law enforcement and emergency management resources can stay focused on ensuring the safety of people who might be impacted by the storm," says the release.

There is no word on whether or not the storm will have any impact on the first lady's plans to attend a fundraiser in Boston on Tuesday night.
