Firefighters rescue elderly man from Brockton fire

BROCKTON, Mass. — An elderly man has been taken to the hospital after being rescued from a burning apartment in Brockton.

Police said the 82-year-old was unable to get out on his own and by the time rescuers got to him he had major burns.

According to Deputy Fire Chief Charles Davis, a rookie firefighter used a ground ladder to make the rescue.

Firefighters were returning from another scene when they received the call for the fire on Oak Street.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
