Firefighter accused of possessing illegal firearm, drugs

BARNSTABLE, Mass. — A Massachusetts state firefighter who faces drug and weapons charges after authorities say they found painkiller pills and an illegal firearm in his house has pleaded not guilty.

Thirty-one-year-old David Luongo was arraigned Tuesday in Barnstable on charges of drug possession, unlicensed possession of an assault weapon and possession of a large-capacity firearm, among other charges.

The Cape Cod Times reports police expect to file additional charges related to a large amount of explosive components found in his home during a raid.

Police raided Luongo's home Monday and discovered nearly 1,000 painkiller pills, alongside a rifle Luongo told them was homemade and large-capacity magazines.

Luongo declined to comment on the charges as he left the court. He posted bail and is due back in court on Sept. 27.
