Fire officials: Cigarette caused Boston roof deck fire

BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) – Boston fire investigators determined Tuesday that the cause of the roof deck fire at 182 Beacon St. was the careless disposal of a cigarette.

The Boston Police Department announced via Twitter that the roof of a six-story, 14-unit brownstone went up in flames after someone disposed of a cigarette in a flower pot.

Firefighters responded to the fire at about 5:57 p.m. Monday.

No injuries were reported.

The chief has estimated the damage at $1 million.
