Family rescued after kayak flipped off Duxbury beach

DUXBURY, Mass. — A mother and two kids were rescued from the water off Duxbury beach when their kayak flipped.

Duxbury and Marshfield Harbormasters responded Sunday and were able to get them safely to shore.

Fire Captain Brian Monahan says the kids weren't wearing life jackets and the incident could have been worse if it a good Samaritan hadn't swam out to help them.

"There was a beachgoer that did swim out and attempt to assist with the rescue and ultimately he did help to keep the children calm and assist the mother with keeping the children with the kayak," said Monahan.

Capt. Monahan says this rescue is a good reminder for beachgoers to wear the proper safety gear when heading out on the waters this summer.
