Family of Kyzr Willis releases balloons 1 week after his death

BOSTON — Family and friends of the little boy who drowned, after disappearing from a city-run day camp, gathered for a touching tribute Tuesday night.

FOX25's John Monahan spoke with heartbroken family members who wanted to thank everyone who helped in the search for Kyzr Willis.

At 7:09 p.m., those who had gathered released dozens of balloons, exactly one week after Kyzr’s body was found.

"We want to thank everyone who searched for him,” Kyzr’s uncle John Baker said. "A lot of people didn't know my nephew but yet they came out and they looked for him.”

Some of the people who helped in that search were also at the vigil Tuesday.

"My family and I as did everyone else ran all around Southie looking for him and hoping we find him in our back yard,” Julie Paradiso said.

Kyzr had been attending a city-run day camp when he disappeared just after 2 p.m. on July 26.

The camp had been closed while new safety procedures were implemented.

"It took this kind of an action. That should never happen for changes to be made. It shouldn't take that,” Baker told FOX25.

A wake for Kyzr is scheduled for Wednesday and his funeral will be held Thursday.
