BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) – The familyof Debra Davis is asking a judge to appoint a special investigator to digdeeper into the financial status of James "Whitey" Bulger.
In court documents filed Mondayafternoon, the Davis family is also demanding similar investigations into othermembers of the Winter Hill Gang, including Steve "The Rifleman" Flemmi, JohnMartorano, and Kevin Weeks.
Attorney Brad Bailey told FOX 25 it is not unusual forboth forfeiture and restitution in federal criminal cases, but it's usually inproperty crimes rather than violent crimes where plantiffs are asking the courtto place a value on human life in order for Bulger to reimburse them.
Bulger was found guilty in August ofracketeering and conspiracy. Prior to his conviction, Bulger's defense teamwaived his right for the jury to determine the forfeitability of his assets. The court will be left to decide the amount of money given to the families ofBulger's alleged victims.
