Family, friends mourn loss of 'bright' 14-year-old

BROCKTON, Mass. — Family and friends are mourning the loss of a teen who was hit and killed while riding his bike in Brockton.

"Love my son, I love my son," the mother of Madio Djalo told FOX25 through tears.

With his photo cradled in her lap, the mother is wracked with grief by her sudden loss

"He love everybody, respect everybody," family friend Bandara Sakho said.

Friends and family gathered in the Djalo home Wednesday, not far from the spot on Main Street where police say Madio lost his life.

Investigators say Madio was riding his bike north when an 18-year-old driving an SUV south struck him.

Police say that driver is cooperating with them, and Madio's father told us he harbors no hate, calling it simply a horrible accident

Madio's family says he incredibly bright, and on Wednesday was set to begin sophomore classes, though he was just 14 years old. He dreamed of a future in computer science and was on his way to do homework with a friend when he was killed.

"Everything that I've heard about the young man this morning is that he was an excellent student, model citizen," said Brockton Mayor Bill Carpenter.

Brockton High School has grief counselors for students and staff.
