• Family devastated after alleged drunk driver hits, kills man in Jamaica Plain

BOSTON - A person charged in a deadly two-vehicle crash was in court Friday.

Police say Joseph Kayode was driving drunk last Friday morning when he crashed into another vehicle on Columbus Avenue in Jamaica Plain.

Emanuel Cabral was sitting in the front passenger seat of the parked car. He was killed.

The family's attorney says Cabral had recently reunited with his wife and two sons after being apart for several years.

"About to begin a new life in this country together," Attorney Manuel Pires said. "And now the family is shattered."

Kayode has been charged with motor vehicle homicide with OUI, and OUI. Prosecutors say speed also may have been a factor.

He will be back in court Jan. 30.
