Family continues to seek answers in Baseball Tavern beating

BOSTON — The family of a man who remains in a coma following an incident at a Boston tavern three weeks ago handed out flyers outside the bar Saturday in an effort to find out what happened.

Robert "Robbie" McLaughlin, 27, was critically injured while celebrating two birthdays at The Baseball Tavern near Fenway Park, on Boylston Street, with his brother and his friends.

His family and friends believe he was beaten up and thrown down a flight of stairs.

But since the incident, there have been no arrests and no information about who might have hurt McLaughlin and why.

Sources told FOX25 last week that homicide detectives are investigating the case and looking into whether a bar employee was involved.

McLaughlin's father, Jay McLaughlin, pleaded for answers in an exclusive interview with FOX25 last week.

"Whoever out there who may have seen something, if they could just do the right thing," he begged. "For the people that have already come forward, I thank them for the help."

On Tuesday, the City of Boston Licensing Board will discuss the tavern and the incident during a hearing, the board's online agenda shows.

Bar owners released a statement to FOX25 Saturday, saying in part:

"We did everything we could to ensure the safety of all patrons and help the injured patron at the time. Despite our best efforts and continued cooperation with the police we are still searching for information that may help in determining what happened outside or who is responsible for the serious injuries."

Bar manager Dan Quintino told FOX25 on Saturday that he has no knowledge of any bar workers involved in the incident. He said there is no surveillance video.
